Expert Statement

My research focusses on the most important asset of organizations: their employees. I look at how the work makes people sick or healthy/motivated and what organizations and employees can do to improve their well-being and functioning. My research shows that we need: (1) to design jobs such that job demands (requirements) are affordable and job resources (autonomy) are high, (2) stimulate employees to proactively adjust their job such that it fits their preferences and is meaningful (job crafting), and (3) motivate employees to use effective recovery and work-family strategies (life crafting).
